2012 Volunteer of the Year

Michael Maly, unit assistant volunteer in the Emergency Department, receives annual volunteer award

Oak Park, IL (July 20, 2012) — Michael Maly, a retired broker who volunteers in the Emergency Department every week on Tuesdays and Thursdays, has received Rush Oak Park Hospital's 2012 Volunteer of the Year Award. Maly has been an active volunteer since February 2008 and served 388 hours in 2011.

Maly was Rush Oak Park Hospital’s first unit assistant volunteer in the Emergency Department and has contributed immensely to the success of the program by providing evaluation and feedback, as well as assisting staff with department orientation and training of new volunteers. Last year he even received a “ShoutOut,” an internal employee and volunteer recognition award, for helping with orientation and training more than 20 new volunteers. Staff members say they look forward to the days Maly is around because of his positive attitude, personality and enthusiastic energy.

In addition to honoring Maly, Rush Oak Park Hospital honored all volunteers at the annual Volunteer Awards and Recognition Dinner on Thursday, June 14, including:

  • One year of service: Betty Bunkers, Skilled Care; Nia Butler, Center for Diabetes and Endocrine Care; Mary Gerard, Eucharistic minister; and Gloria Henderson, Wound Care
